6 Best Ways to Customize Telegram App on iPhone and Android

Along with its privacy and security features, one of the reasons for Telegram’s remarkable popularity is its customization options. With the relevant options, you can completely change the Telegram experience on your Android or iPhone. Here are the six best ways to customize the Telegram app on your phone.

Telegram, which rivals WhatsApp and Signal, has equipped the app with privacy plugins and customization options. The app allows you to change the background wallpaper, text size, theme, app icons and more. Sounds interesting, right? Let’s explore them.

1. Change Chat Background

It’s simple and now available in practically any messaging app. You can change the background wallpaper in Telegram chat and even add one from the Gallery app.

Since Telegram uses different UI in both iPhone and Android apps, we will divide each section into two categories.

iPhone

Stage 1: Open Telegram and go to Settings.

Step 2: Go to Appearance > Chat Background and select a corresponding wallpaper from the list.

You can even apply wallpaper from the Photos app. Tap on Select From Photos and choose a picture.

Android

Stage 1: Open Telegram and use the hamburger menu to go to Settings.

Step 2: Select Chat Settings > Change Chat Background.

You can choose one of the defaults or try one from the Gallery app.

2. Change App Theme

This is another great feature that lets you change the look and feel of Telegram. By default, Telegram theme is set to Blue. You can change it to Green, Pink, Red and more.

iPhone

Stage 1: Open Telegram and go to Settings > Appearance.

Step 2: Choose your favorite theme from the color menu and tap the three-dot menu for further customization.

Stage 3: You can choose a specific color for Background, Highlight and Messages.

Android

Stage 1: Open Chat Settings menu from Telegram Settings.

Step 2: Select the color theme and tap the three-dot menu. Similar to iOS, you can change the Background, Highlight and Messages color to your liking.

3. Change Text Size

If the default text size is too large or small, you can also customize it in Telegram. Here’s how.

iPhone

Stage 1: Go to Telegram Settings > Appearance > Text Size.

Step 2: By default, Telegram uses the system Text size. Increase or decrease according to your preference. Press Set and you’re ready to go.

Android

Stage 1: Go to Telegram Settings > Chat Settings.

Step 2: Use the slider and increase or decrease Telegram text size.

4. Replace Message Corners

If you don’t like message corners in Telegram, you can reduce the corner radius.

iPhone

Stage 1: Open the View menu in Telegram Settings.

Step 2: Select Message Corner and turn the corner curve down around the messages.

Android

Stage 1: Go to Chat Settings in Telegram.

5. Change Telegram App Icon

If the default Telegram app icon sounds boring, it’s time to change it from the Settings menu.

iPhone

Stage 1: Go to Telegram Settings > View menu.

Step 2: Scroll down and select a relevant app icon for Telegram. We liked the gradient themed one.

Android

Unfortunately Telegram does not offer the same icon set in its Android app. Don’t worry though. Play Store is full of many excellent third-party icon packs. You can install them and change app icons for Telegram and other installed apps.

6. Create a Custom Theme

Telegram’s customization options don’t end there. Users can even go ahead and create a custom theme for themselves. Here is how to create a custom Telegram theme.

iPhone

Stage 1: Go to Telegram Settings > View menu.

Step 2: Tap the + icon in the upper right corner.

Stage 3: Select Create New Theme.

Step 4: Change Background colors, highlights, Messages and choose a custom wallpaper.

Give your custom theme a name and hit Done at the top.

Android

Stage 1: Tap on the three dots option at the top from the Chat Settings menu in Telegram.

Step 2: Select Create a new theme.

Stage 3: Give the theme a name and a theme editor will appear.

Step 4: Choose color, background and other elements to save in your custom theme.

You will find the custom theme from the Color theme menu.
