Samsung Galaxy A7 Camera Review: Equivalent to the Competition

Samsung recently launched the new Galaxy A7 (Rs. 23.990) in India, adding to the premium ranger range in the country. The device packs some impressive specs like a stunning 6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display, triple camera setup and (not entirely) new fingerprint sensor placement. The device is powered by Samsung. Exynos 7885 SoC coupled with 4/6GB RAM and 64/128GB internal storage.

Everything aside, the Galaxy A7’s triple camera setup is its standout feature and is probably what will attract most buyers. So how does the triple camera setup work? Here’s what we learned in our Galaxy A7 camera review:

Features

Before we move on to the camera review, let’s take a closer look at the camera features of the Samsung Galaxy A7. The device’s primary triple camera setup 24MP f/1.7 lens with PDAF, 5MP f/2.2 lens for depth sensing and 8MP f/2.4 ultra-wide-angle lens. On the front, the device is a 24MP f/2.0 selfie shooter this is accompanied by a forward-facing flash. Samsung has also included an AI-based Scene Optimizer, Live Focus or portrait mode with some cool new effects, and a very basic professional mode as well as a host of software features for the camera.

• Performance in Good Lighting Conditions

The primary triple camera setup of the Galaxy A7 is quite capable of capturing images in good lighting conditions. Images come out pretty sharp with plenty of detail and good dynamic range. Device tends to lean a little towards warmer tones, which really makes some colors stand out, but may not appeal to users who prefer cooler tones. • Performance in Low Light Conditions

In low light conditions, the camera on the Galaxy A7 uses Samsung’s SuperPixel technology, which combines four adjacent pixels to create a SuperPixel that captures more light. While technology helps images appear a little brighter, there is some loss of detail as the resulting image has 1/4 the resolution of the sensor. Color saturation remains pretty good even in low-light conditions, but the camera sacrifices a bit in dynamic range. Take a look at some of the low light examples we captured using the Galaxy A7:

• Portrait Mode Performance

The secondary 5MP lens on the Galaxy A7 is dedicated to depth perception and does a pretty good job. The Galaxy A7 allows users to adjust the background blur when clicking images in Live Focus mode, and if it still looks a bit off, you can also adjust it later in the gallery. The portrait mode images captured by the Galaxy A7 are pretty good overall. good subject separation and good background blur. Edge detection is mostly spot on as well, though the device struggles a bit when taking portrait shots in low light. The included portrait effects, especially the portrait car effect, are also pretty cool and add a unique touch to portrait images taken using the device. • Wide Angle Performance

The triple camera setup of the Galaxy A7 also consists of an 8MP 120-degree ultra-wide-angle lens that can take pretty good shots. Front camera

On the front, the Galaxy A7’s 24MP f/2.0 selfie shooter can take great pictures. In good lighting conditions, the selfie camera works really well and takes pictures. plenty of detail, good dynamic range and adequate color accuracy. In low light conditions, the Galaxy A7 once again does not perform well. Samsung also includes a front-facing portrait mode that works pretty well most of the time. tends to soften details a bit when used. The first image in our examples clearly highlights this issue.

Due to its price tag, the Galaxy A7 competes directly with Xiaomi’s Poco F1 and Vivo V11 Pro, both of which perform quite well in the camera department.

Good Lighting Conditions

While both the Poco F1 and Vivo V11 Pro can outperform the Galaxy A7 in most scenarios, I personally prefer the Galaxy A7’s camera, mostly because the images aren’t oversaturated when clicking images in good lighting conditions. Here are a few examples we used for comparison:

In low light conditions, tGalaxy A7 marginally outperforms Poco F1 as it can capture more light. However, if we only emphasize on the details, then the Vivo V11 Pro would be the clear winner. The Galaxy A7’s portrait mode capabilities are on par with the Vivo V11 Pro and slightly better than those of the Poco F1, only because of the versatile software application that allows users to adjust their portrait shots later. Front camera

All-in-all, the Galaxy A7 should be right if you’re in the market for a premium mid-range device that offers a few unique features in the camera department like a wide-angle lens and cool portrait mode effects. in the alley.
