With Champions 2022 getting ever closer, Riot Games has announced its plans to shake up the entire competitive circuit in the game.
Valorant’s competitive circuit will begin a franchise-like structure after this season ends, starting with a kickoff tournament hosted by Riot in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The event will include all the teams that will be part of this franchise structure.

Valorant’s redesigned circuit to feature leagues by region
Valorant Champions Tour 2023 is set to launch a franchise-like structure for the entire tournament circuit. Riot doesn’t exactly call this setup a “franchising”, but rather an affiliate system. Organizations will enter into legal partnerships with Riot Games, where all partner teams will be allowed to join the league, and in return, Riot will acquire the teams’ intellectual property.
All partner teams will be featured in one of three international leagues that Riot will host this year. Each league will consist of teams from the Americas, EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) and Asia regions. Each league will have 10 partner teams from the same region, with a total of 30 teams partnering with Riot Games.
Teams in the league will receive a share of the revenue from in-game cosmetics made using intellectual property rights. Points in the league will be free, but all teams will have to meet their contractual obligations. They will also be evaluated by Riot for their financial standing to determine if they can afford the costs of being part of this structure.
Rebel partner teams will receive a minimum salary of $600,000 and an additional $400,000 if teams fulfill certain incentives set for them. The Americas league will take place in Los Angeles, USA, the Asian league will take place in Seoul, South Korea, and the EMEA league will take place in Berlin, Germany, and Riot will give teams an additional stipend for travel and living expenses.

The new season of Professional Valorant will kick off in February, and Riot will hold a kickoff tournament for this new format in Sao Paulo, Brazil, featuring all 30 partner teams. The winner of this tournament will give their region an extra spot in the season’s Masters tournament.
Unaffiliated teams will compete in the Challengers tournament, which will culminate in the season’s “Ascension” tournament. The winners of this tournament will be guaranteed a place in next year’s international league.
