The whole point of communication revolves around conversation. If you’ve hosted or attended a Zoom meeting from your Android smartphone but can’t hear what the participants are saying, that defeats the entire purpose of the meeting. To help you with this, we will list nine (9) solutions that you can use when the Zoom app sound or sound is not working on your Android device.
If you accidentally muted your phone’s speaker or disabled the in-app speaker, Zoom may encounter sound problems on your Android device. In addition, the phone’s sound profile set to Silent or Vibrate may also cause a change in the sound functionality of the application. These are the most common causes of deterioration.
Other times, it’s just the Zoom app (or your phone) that’s misbehaving. That said, let’s move on to solutions.
1. Reboot Phone
Restarting your phone can also help fix any potential glitches and temporary issues that might be preventing the Zoom app from accessing its sound settings and profiles.
2. Enable Speaker
If you’re holding a Zoom meeting on your Android device but don’t hear other participants, make sure you haven’t turned off the app’s speaker output. In the upper right corner of the meeting window, x to the right of the speaker icon – this means the speaker is disabled for that meeting.
Tap the icon to reactivate the speaker and you should now hear the other participants.
3. Check Device Volume
If Zoom’s sound or volume isn’t working when you’re in a meeting, another check you want to run is to confirm that your device isn’t muted. You (or maybe someone else) may have accidentally turned your phone volume down. In this case, the Zoom sound will not work.
To fix this, tap the volume up or down button on your phone to control the volume. If your device volume is at the lowest/percentage, tap the volume up button or move the slider up to increase the volume.
4. Check Call Volume
If turning your phone volume up or down doesn’t make Zoom’s volume or sound work again, the next thing you’ll want to check is your device’s call volume. This is different from the normal system-wide Android volume control. If you can’t hear anyone or anything during a Zoom meeting (especially a Dial-in meeting), make sure your phone’s call volume isn’t low or muted. Here’s how.
Stage 1: Launch the Android Settings menu.
Step 2: Choose Sound.
Stage 3: Check the call volume section. If it’s low or silent, move the slider to the right to increase your phone’s call volume.
Now return to your Zoom call and check if you can hear other participants’ voices. If the app’s sound is still not working, skip to the next solution.
5. Change Sound Profile
For devices with Zoom sound or audio problems, the company recommends checking and changing your sound/sound profile. For example, if your device is in Vibrate, Silent or Do Not Disturb mode, it may distort Zoom’s sound even if the speaker is turned on in the app.
Follow the steps below to change the sound profile on your Android smartphone.
Stage 1: Tap the volume up or volume down button to open the volume control slider.
Step 2: Tap the Mute icon (a diagonal ring) or the Vibrate icon (a phone with two lines next to it) at the top of the volume slider to change the sound profile to Ring (a regular ring icon).
With your phone’s sound profile set to play, check if the Zoom sound/sound is working now.
6. Use Alternative Audio Device
Try connecting your phone to a headset (wired or wireless) and see if Zoom audio works. If so, remove the headphones from your device and try using Zoom again through your phone’s speaker. If there is no sound from the speaker or headphones, continue to the next solution.
7. Force Stop Application
When you have problems with sound/sound in the Zoom app on your Android device, the Zoom app might be malfunctioning, stopped responding to certain commands, or get stuck. Force-stopping and restarting the app can help bring it back to normal. Launch your phone’s Settings menu and go to Apps & notifications > See All Apps > Zoom in and tap the Force Stop icon. Then click the Open icon to restart the application.
If the app still has sound issues after doing this, continue clearing its cache. See method #6 below.
8. Clear App Cache
This can also help you fix any problems your Zoom app might be encountering. To do this on your Android phone, launch the Settings menu and go to Apps & notifications > See All Apps > Zoom > Storage & cache and tap the Clear Cache icon.
After doing that, launch Zoom and check if the speaker now works with the app. If the problem persists, try the next fix below.
9. Update Zoom
Another thing you want to do when certain Zoom features are not working properly is to make sure you have the latest version of the app on your device. The sound issue you are experiencing may be due to a bug in the version of the application you are running. Launch Play Store on your phone, search for Zoom and tap the Update button.
Turn On Speakers
As mentioned earlier, several factors can cause sound and sound issues in the Zoom Android app. Wherever the problem originates, the troubleshooting methods listed above should help you get things back in order.
