Between Google’s beta program and the official release of Android 9 Pie in August 2018 (last year), manufacturers had plenty of time to prepare software updates. However, it took quite a while for LG to deliver. Google has already released Android 10 and LG is still offering updates 15 months later.

So far, nearly every major phone from the past few years is on Pie, with the exception of a bunch of LG phones and cheaper budget devices. As a comparison of how late LG is to this version, the OnePlus 3, released in 2016, received Pie before ANY LG device in the United States. This is bad.

Will My LG Get Android 9 Pie?

While we’ve heard about Android 9 Pie updates from a few manufacturers like Samsung, OnePlus, and Motorola, LG still remains relatively quiet. Even with June 2019 coming, nine months after Google launched Pie, we’re still not sure what LG is up to. However, another update starts every few weeks, which is good news.

These are the LG phones that have or believe will receive Android 9 updates in 2019.

Again, this list is unconfirmed, but we’ll update it with more information as it becomes available. Basically, any phone released by LG in the last 12-18 months should eventually get Android 9. We say we should, but that doesn’t mean they DO.

So far LG G7 ThinQ confirms Android Pie beta In December 2018 in Korea, they released the G7 One update that ended on January 17 in the region. back in November. Finally, after a long wait, we see the first LG V40 Android Pie update arriving on Verizon on May 23 and G7 at Verizon in June followed by T-Mobile in July. That’s good news and now we’re seeing the AT&T V40 update, plus more to come soon.

Additionally, it looks like V35 in South Korea Like most, she takes Pie carrier models in the USA. On July 29, the LG V30 update launched outside the US, but will soon roll out to more regions. We even see the 2-year-old Verizon LG V30 getting Android Pie, which is good news. Verizon bought it back in September, and now AT&T and T-Mobile’s LG V30 Android Pie updates available in October of 2019.

LG Android 9 Update Release Date

So when will your LG phone get the Android 9 Pie update? We’re not really sure. This is another gray area for the company. We know a bunch of phones will eventually get a slice of Pie in 2019, but for those who haven’t yet, we don’t have a firm date.

High-end devices like the LG V40, V30, and LG G7 top the list to receive updates. Here is some recently released information from LG that will leave a lot to be desired by the owners.

It states that the V40 and G6 are receiving maintenance updates, while the LG G7 may see Pie in the first quarter of 2019. That is, any time between January and the end of March. And that’s just for the G7 in Korea. Ah.

Google recently added something known as Project Treble to Android; this will help manufacturers like LG release updates faster than in other years. LG has even opened a new upgrade center to speed up the software, but so far we see no signs of the situation improving.

So while we were hoping that more LG phones would get Android 9 Pie in the next 1-2 months, we said that in April and May, then again in July, and we were wrong. So don’t be surprised if you have to wait until October or November to get it.

LG Android 9 Beta

At this time, we have no information about a potential Android 9 Pie beta for any LG phone, aside from the LG G7 ThinQ in Korea, the Verizon G7, and the Verizon LG V35 that has since expired. In previous years, LG was one of the first companies to offer betas and quickly deliver software to owners. they were Android 8.0 Oreo betas in November last year, just 2-3 months after Google released the update.

We thought the company would release a series of Android Pie betas for multiple phones before the end of 2018, but that never happened. At the time, we thought most of them would come in the first 3-4 months of 2019, but neither did this. Basically, your guess is as good as ours. I am sad.

And don’t ask about an Android 10 yet.

Android 9 Pie is Google’s best, fastest and smartest version of Android ever. Whether it’s tools that make life easier like autofill, or artificial intelligence to conserve battery life. It’s worth noting that LG has added a skin to stock Android like Samsung. While this skin adds extra features or controls, it also slows down the update process. This is because they need to collate both versions in a single version. The Treble Project will help alleviate this slow process, but not until next year. In closing, we want to remind LG owners that updates are a slow process. And unfortunately, it’s slower than usual for LG right now. Still, high-end devices released in the last few years have already received Pie, and we expect more for the rest of the year. So sit tight, the wait is almost over.

Given that Google released Android 9 Pie in August, developers like LG have had at least 12+ months to work on it. It’s a pity that Google has already released Android 10 and left several LG phones a year behind in the software department.
