LG Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update Version Dump

Back in October, Google announced an update to replace Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, of course Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Multiple Nexus, Motorola, HTC, and LG devices have received an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the past few months, and we’ll go over all the details for LG smartphone owners below.

LG was one of the first manufacturers in Poland to release an Android 6.0 update on any device with the new LG G4. This update came quickly to other regions like Korea, the UK, and even the United States at Sprint last week. However, there are still millions of LG G3, LG G4 and even LG G Stylo owners and others waiting for Marshmallow.

With the LG G5 starting to leak more and more, owners of existing LG devices are wondering if the device is worth keeping, when they will get the latest software, or if they should upgrade to the G5 when it launches. Below are a few key details regarding the rollout of the LG Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

While some manufacturers like Motorola and HTC are very open and transparent when it comes to software updates, LG is the opposite. And with Android 5.1 Lollipop last year, while the company did a better job delivering the update faster than in previous years, it had a number of issues that caused frustration for many owners.

Google has actually just released a newer Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update and most owners are still waiting for the original to arrive. Samsung is behind others. HTC One M8, One M9, Moto X, Moto G and certain LG G4 owners have all received some versions of Marshmallow, while Samsung has started beta testing only for certain users.

What this means is that those who own an LG device released in the last two years have some exciting new features to look forward to. Android 6.0 Marshmallow offers a refined experience, better security, improved performance, battery life and much more. We’ve already seen several devices receive updates, and here’s what users need to know as they move forward into 2016.

LG G4 Android 6.0 Update

On October 6, the day after Google released Android 6.0, we saw the update appear on the official LG G3 and G4 support pages. This suggested that they would both get the update and one would still get it while waiting for the other.

In November, LG pushed Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the G4 in Poland, then to a few other regions, the UK, and last week it arrived in the United States via Sprint. So far, Sprint is the only US carrier to get Android 6.0 for the LG G4, but others will follow shortly. The company has yet to make an official announcement, but T-Mobile has confirmed its future, AT&T has been quick with LG in the past, and more is coming soon.

We don’t have a release date yet for the LG G4 Android 6.0 update on Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile or other devices, but it should arrive in the next 2-3 weeks. It suggested a few rumors for the first week of January and we’ll update once we know more.

LG G3 Android 6.0 Update

As we mentioned above, the LG G3 will receive an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It’s getting close to the 18-month cycle where Google requires manufacturers to support devices with upgrades, but it still makes the list.

The LG support page mentioned this, and so did T-Mobile’s announcement earlier this year. Noting the G3 and G4 in particular will see updates and even the budget-friendly LG G Stylo, which we’ll talk about in a moment.

Shown above is the T-Mobile update roadmap. Numerous devices were featured on the list, but unfortunately there is no release date to match it. Considering T-Mobile was one of the first to make an announcement and the first US carrier to offer the LG G4, we can expect the G3 and G4 to get Android 6.0 soon. Probably before all other carriers. LG G3 Android 6.0 update source code was recently released by LG and it shows that the software is in the final stages. Now that the company is rolling out Android 6.0 to the G4 in Poland, the UK, the US, Korea and other regions, the G3 should be next. Whenever, though, there’s still someone’s guess, but at least one recommends a report Coming in the next two weeks.

LG G Stilo Android 6.0

The LG G Stylo is a versatile big-budget smartphone available on T-Mobile and Sprint. It comes with a stylus and a big screen, but none of the high-end features the LG G4 has to offer. It’s a mid-range phone, but it just got Android 6.0 Marshmallow last night.

According to the official Sprint support pageThe LG G Stylo is joining the Android 6.0 update from the LG G4 and T-Mobile should be next. This is good news for those who own the LG G Stylo at Sprint, a hint about what’s to come at T-Mobile and possibly Boost Mobile. This could mean that the general LG Android 6.0 update is about to roll out for all LG G3, G4, G Stylo and other LG smartphones in the coming weeks. LG has been quiet again, but with two major releases already in the US, more are likely to emerge in the coming days.

Google’s brand new Nexus 5X was made by LG and that may be one reason why the company is way ahead of the rest in terms of Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, but we can’t be sure. Finally, it looks like most LG smartphone owners may be the first to get Android 6.0 ahead of HTC and Samsung phones released by carriers in the United States.

Carriers put it through rigorous testing, particularly Verizon and AT&T, which delays updates even further. That said, we’ll relay all the details as soon as we know more details about all LG Android 6.0 updates. Stay tuned, we hear many Marshmallow updates will start arriving in early 2016.
