
Apple has introduced the new iOS 17.3 update and with it a new feature called Stolen Device Protection. This adds an extra layer of security to your iPhone when you perform certain actions that involve your iCloud account or other sensitive information.
For example, if you want to view your saved passwords, request an Apple Card, or change your Apple ID password or iPhone passcode, You will now need to use your fingerprint or face to unlock your phone.
Apple increases the security of its iPhones with iOS 17.3
The feature also adds a one-hour waiting period before performing these actions and then asks you to scan your fingerprint or face again. This helps ensure that it’s you trying to perform these actions, and not someone stealing your phone and PIN.
The new option only works when you’re away from places your iPhone recognizes as familiar, like your home or workplace. So you don’t have to worry about waiting time when you’re in a safe environment. You can enable stolen device protection by going to Settings, Face ID & Passcode and enabling the feature.
- Make sure your iPhone works with: iOS version 17.3.
- Open the Settings app, scroll down and tap. Face ID and Passcode.

- Scroll down on the next page and enable option “ protecting stolen devices “.
What else is new in iOS 17.3?
Note that iOS 17.3 also brings new features to the Apple Music app, such as: collaborative playlists. This feature allows you and your friends to create and edit playlists together and share your musical tastes and discoveries. You can invite your friends to join your playlists by sending a link, and they can add, remove or rearrange the songs as they wish. This option works on both iOS 17.3 and macOS 14.3 Sonoma, the latest version of Apple’s operating system for Mac.
Another new feature in iOS 17.3 is the ability to stream content to TVs in certain hotels. This feature allows you to watch your favorite shows and movies on the big screen using your iPhone without having to plug in a cable or use an app. Scan a QR code on the TV and then choose what you want to watch from your iPhone. This feature is available on Apple TV+, Netflix, YouTube, etc. It is compatible with all content that supports AirPlay.
Apple has also optimized the Crash Detection feature on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models to prevent it from activating during activities that cause movements similar to a car accident. Finally we find this an emoji reaction feature that allows listeners to add emojis to any song playing. There are standard, quick-access emoji options like heart and thumbs up, but the “+” button lets you add any emoji.
Besides iOS 17.3, Apple also released Updates for older iOS versions such as iOS 9, 15 and 16. These updates may include security patches and bug fixes; Therefore, it is recommended to update your iPhone as soon as possible.
