Google Maps tells you what each restaurant’s most popular dishes are

Google Maps will become even more relevant to help us choose the restaurant we want to dine at. The application now offers a section Popular dishes in the list of organizations identified as “What people order based on photos and reviews”. According to 9To5Google, an algorithm scans various content posted by users, highlighting the most cited dishes.

Google Maps wants to replace Yelp or La Fourchette

Meals are served through a Material Design menu. A featured photo is chosen for each and can be pressed to find other photos of the food and comments and opinions about it.

As a result, it is an additional input for users to quickly understand what type of restaurant they are dealing with and whether it suits their tastes. For some establishments, there was already an elaborate menu with a full list of starters, main courses and desserts, but this is not for everyone.

The first information shared with us on Maps is price range (number of € symbols), ratings and reviews. Photos can only be filtered by “Latest”, “Gastronomy”, “Atmosphere”, “Menu”, but all this is often a bit too extensive. With this improvement currently being tested and not yet available to the public, Maps is more than ever an alternative to Yelp or La Fourchette.
