Chrome 72 now blocks users from installing Chromecast dongles using a Mac, Windows, or Linux browser. Now the page automatically redirects to the Google Home app, Google’s home automation hub.

Google Chrome 72 is available for download: here are the changes

If it is no longer possible to configure a Chromecast via your browser, it is still possible to send tabs, videos or audio content From Chrome to another Chromecast-enabled device, such as the Google Home speaker. Only configuration is reserved for the application.

In the process, Google has also (slightly) revised the Chrome settings interface with a clearer organization for settings related to autofill. On Windows, Google has also decided to block pop-ups that appear while a page is loading.
