Google has developed a built-in antivirus for Android called Google Play Protection, but it is important to note that this built-in defense does not provide perfect results. In fact, according to tests conducted by AV-TEST, a laboratory that tests different antivirus software, Play Protection underperforms when it comes to protecting Android users against the different types of malware currently available.
Each security application was required to detect 29 unique spyware threats. The analysis was conducted in July 2021. Surprisingly, the worst results so far were achieved by the native Google Play Protection app. It was only able to detect 9 out of 29 threats, corresponding to a success rate of 31%.

Google performs worse than other antiviruses on Android
Nine of the 15 apps considered in the study achieved the maximum score of 18 points in the durability test. These applications were created by Avast, AVG, Bitdefender, F-Secure, G DATA, Kaspersky, McAfee, NortonLifeLock and Trend Micro. These are followed by Avira, Kurallı.net, security and AhnLab applications with 17.8 to 17.1 points. Australian company Ikarus also received 16 points. But, Google Play Protect once again came last in the series with only 6 points.
According to the results, Google Play Protection detected only two-thirds of the 20,000 malicious apps used to check the effectiveness of malware detection apps on Android. Given the increase in cyber attacks and user privacy concerns, This figure is alarming..
An ordinary user may think that Play Protection is as effective as other security software, but this is not the case. When you are faced with the failure of the most used Google antivirus in the world, we can only advise you to install a new antivirus on your Android smartphone. While we wait for Google to fix the Play Protection issues. On the Microsoft side, Windows Defender antivirus is as effective as Kaspersky or Symantec.
