While the Google Play Store remains the main source for installing apps on Android, alternative platforms such as APKMirror have also gained popularity in recent years. But, Installing applications from sources other than Google Play carries potential riskssuch as installing incompatible versions or updates that may eliminate essential functionality.
To prevent you from making mistakes when choosing an APK, Google has decided to send warnings to users who try to download updates of main Google applications starting from Android 14.
The Google Play Store should only claim ownership of updates to essential apps, such as Play Services. So, if you want to download the latest APK of the Spotify application, you should not receive this new warning.
This feature is primarily designed to prevent possible complications related to sideloading updates. In the past, Updates installed outside of the Google Play Store have been known to accidentally remove featuresespecially when these are specific to certain versions of an application.
Therefore, this new warning will reduce the number of users who install Google app updates outside of the Play Store, thereby improving the overall security of Android. We would like to remind you that Android 14 is currently in its third beta and the stable version should arrive at the end of summer.
