With the advancement of technology, many tools have been updated to help human beings. Practicality comes as a way to improve the user experience at various moments in their daily lives.
The use of maps was no different. In an attempt to improve usability for those who depended on the Street Guide, Google was able to create a 100% online map. This way, you have directions in the palm of your hand, via your cell phone, and you don’t need to carry a huge book around with you.
But the Google Maps has functions that few people know about, did you know? That’s why today we’re going to show you 6 features that can be great allies in your day-to-day life, helping you on your journey.
1. Add stops
Normally, when we use Maps, we calculate the route from point A to point B, right? But did you know that you can add more stops to your route? And this helps you a lot, because the map will optimize the route and time so that you don’t have any major problems.
To do this, simply add your starting point and destination as usual. Then, click on the three dots in the top right corner and click on “Add stop”. Google Maps will calculate the best route for you based on the stops you need to make.
2. Travel History
Did you know that Maps has a history so you can keep track of your travels? That’s right. In reality, this tool works more like statistics, storing all the places you’ve been.
This feature can help you, as it saves the data and you can consult it at any time to know the time spent on the journey or remember a route, for example.
3. Travel icon that changes
Although this feature isn’t very useful, it can make your trip more fun. That’s because Google Maps allows you to change the travel icon on your route. Just click on the arrow and it will give you the following options: a sedan, an SUV or a smiley face. Just choose and have a more fun route.
4. Offline mode
Another Google Maps utility that can change your day-to-day life. Did you know that when your signal disappears, or if you don’t want to use your cell phone data, you can use Maps offline? You just need to download the map to use it when you don’t have an internet signal on your device.
You can select your route and then click on the three dots in the upper right corner. Then, just choose the option “Download offline map”. This will download the map to your device and you can use it without the need for an internet connection. Cool, right?
5. Augmented reality map
Having directions with augmented reality can be the best way to avoid getting lost on the way. Called Live Views, Maps gives you the option to recognize the street with your smartphone and, using arrows, show all the instructions so you don’t get lost on the way. Pretty fun, right?
To activate this feature, simply access the Live Views icon in the bottom left corner. The system will ask you to raise your phone so it can recognize everything around you. After that, it will do its magic and help you on your way.
6. Measure distances
In the desktop version of Maps, there is a function that can give you a good overview of what you need. This is because it allows you to measure distances.
You just need to search for the distance you will travel and then select “Measure distance”, pressing the right mouse button on the map. And that’s it, it calculates everything for you without any problem.
