New Netflix project could put an end to password sharing in Brazil

THE Netflixa streaming giant, has announced another initiative to combat one of the industry’s biggest challenges: password sharing. According to recent reports, the platform is working on a new project to ensure that only authorized users have access to the content available on the platform.

This project consists of an identity confirmation system that will be sent to the cell phone number registered in the user’s official account.

The decision was made to ensure greater security within the platform, mainly to prevent possible accounts from being hacked without the owner’s permission.

One of the first countries to receive this change will be the USA, with a date already set for its implementation. As for when this new policy will come to Brazil, there is no forecast, but it is known that it will soon be validated.

One of Netflix’s main goals has been to put an end to inappropriate password sharing. Apparently, sharing passwords is only acceptable between people living in the same household.

However, if the sharing continues, there will be a fine to be paid. However, the user will be able to open an individual account.

It’s not the first attempt

For a few years now, Netflix has been noticing the increasing distribution of passwords, however, until 2022 the platform had not taken drastic measures, but things changed when there was a huge drop in the number of subscribers on the platform.

After that, it decided to tighten its security, although it was harshly criticized. Given such measures, other streaming services also began to think about following in their rival’s footsteps. However, it is possible that all of this is part of a competition to see which platform can make the most profit.

However, Netflix claims that all of these measures are solely to preserve the quality of the productions that are made available on the platform.

In short, a pricing policy is being developed, making it possible to require identity verification for all streaming users.
