New: fuel pump with anti-fraud system has just arrived in Brazil

In addition to inflation, which has skyrocketed fuel prices, consumers have already been facing the risk of filling up at gas stations with tampered pumps, where the displays do not actually reflect the amount being filled. To ensure consumers are protected, Dover Fueling Solutions has launched the first fuel pump with an anti-fraud system.

The city of São João do Meriti, in Rio de Janeiro, has just received a Helix 5000, Dover’s solution to combat fuel fraud. The pump is a response to the new Metrological Technical Regulation (RTM) of Inmetro Ordinance 227/22, which requires a digital signature to prevent fraud such as the low pump.

Regarding the regulation, Stelmo Carneiro, general director of Dover Fueling Solutions for Latin America, reiterates that:

“The aim of the new regulation is to ensure safety for liquid fuel metering pumps, with the aim of preventing fraud and increasing the reliability of measurements.”

To date, only Dover has fuel pumps that comply with Inmetro’s RTM. In addition to the Helix line, the company is also investing in its Global brand, with devices with different capacities and technologies, which offer greater work autonomy, for example.

In the near future, other pumps like the Helix 5000 are expected to be installed throughout Brazil. But how does the pump guarantee security against fraud? Let’s understand how it works.

How does this new fuel pump work?

To ensure consumer safety, the fuel pump with anti-fraud system works as follows: whenever it is used, it will generate an encrypted digital signature and complete information for the consumer.

The digital signature, once validated, functions as a private and individual key. Being unique to each consumer, it is linked to a digital certificate, functioning as a record of authenticity.

This information will be obtained by the consumer on their cell phone via a Bluetooth connection to the pump. The record will include the amount of fuel supplied and the maintenance history.
