Does Starlink, Elon Musk’s ambitious network, pose a major threat to Brazilian internet operators?

Everyone knows Elon Musk: CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and now Twitter. However, one topic that has been attracting a lot of attention recently and that concerns the billionaire is his satellite internet, called Starlink.

According to XP, the company is adopting an aggressive plan strategy in Brazil. This could intensify competition in the high-speed internet market in rural and remote areas, where large companies still have a low share.

According to analysts Bernardo Guttmann and Marco Nardini, Elon Musk’s company is expanding rapidly in the country. In addition, it offers significant advantages in terms of speed, latency and geographic coverage compared to other services.

Plans that Starlink offers can be a great advantage

According to XP data, analysts note that major telecommunications operators do not yet offer mobile data plans exclusively for 5G. However, they predict that when this happens, prices for these services could become even more competitive.

This is because Elon Musk’s strategy is to use his internet in more remote areas of the country, where fiber optic internet or other types of internet do not yet reach. However, the monthly fees and installation costs for the devices are a little more expensive than those of other operators. But for the company, this can still be offset.

XP is keen to focus on several points of attention linked to Starlink’s risks, including values, service reliability, the network’s capacity to handle increased demand and possible new regulations.
