The company Goal has developed an innovative text-to-audio conversion program using artificial intelligence. This program aims to create a natural and realistic audio experience, going beyond traditional robotic voices.
To achieve this goal, the Meta team decided to take advantage of the vast number of translations and recorded excerpts of the Bible, which spans over 6,000 languages.
Why did Meta choose to use sacred text?
By using biblical passages to train AI, Meta seeks to take advantage of the diversity of languages present in these sacred texts. The Bible is a widely translated book and has a wealth of audio comprehension in multiple languages.
By using these snippets, the program has access to a variety of pronunciations, intonations, and linguistic features from different languages. This approach allows the program to be highly versatile, offering support for multiple languages for text-to-audio conversion.
While Meta currently has access to about 100 languages in voice, training the AI with biblical passages allows the program’s linguistic reach to be significantly expanded.
Over time, Meta plans to further enhance its program, adding support for more languages and refining the quality and naturalness of the AI-generated voices.
The ultimate goal is to provide an authentic and engaging audio experience, regardless of the language the text is written in. The company that owns Facebook and Instagram stated:
“Collecting audio data for thousands of languages was our first challenge because the largest existing speech datasets cover at most 100 languages.
To overcome this, we turn to religious texts, such as the Bible, which have been translated into many different languages and whose translations have been extensively studied for text-based language translation research.”
Platforms that collaborated with the project
The Meta company had the fundamental support of several renowned platforms to obtain access to the more than 6,000 languages present in the Bible in audio format.
These strategic partnerships helped enrich the linguistic database used to train its AI-powered text-to-speech program.
One such essential collaboration was established with FaithComesByHearing.com, a platform dedicated to providing the Bible in audio in multiple languages around the world.
Another platform that played an important role in this initiative is GoTo.Bible. It was instrumental in providing access to Bible translations in different languages, allowing Meta to obtain textual content in different language systems for later translation into audio.
Furthermore, collaboration with Bible.com was also indispensable to complement the linguistic repertoire.
