NEW: University creates small robot assistant that walks through your clothes

A technology has been increasingly showing versatile products that bring comfort and help people’s well-being. With this in mind, “Calico” was created, an incredible little robot developed by researchers at the University of Maryland.

With its innovative design, Calico can move around the user’s body using a special band sewn into the clothing, offering a variety of useful functions.

Weighing just 18 grams, Calico runs along a special track sewn into the wearer’s clothing, performing a variety of tasks, from guiding exercise classes to acting as a stethoscope.

Surprisingly, despite being lightweight, the invention has a payload capacity of up to 20 grams, reaching impressive speeds of 115 millimeters per second to 227 millimeters per second.

Multifaceted assistant

Equipped with a 100 mAh battery, the small robot can last almost eight hours in standby mode and up to 30 minutes of continuous movement. In addition, the battery life can be extended through the loading wireless, offering even more versatility.

The researchers highlighted several potential applications for Calico in a previously published paper. Some of these include:

• Dance instructor: Calico can provide feedback and guidance for beginners learning dance moves;

• Exercise tracker: the robot can track and record information about physical activities, such as step count and heart rate;

• Assistant stethoscope: Calico can act as a stethoscope, allowing the user to monitor their vital signs and gain insight into their health.

With its diverse functionality and compact size, Calico has a promising future as a personal assistant for various everyday activities.

It also offers data monitoring capabilities, allowing users to track their daily actions in a tangible way.

For example, you can tap the robot in a specific way to record the amount of water consumed or move it to visually indicate how much water you have drunk throughout the day, helping you monitor your fluid intake to keep you hydrated.

In addition to its functionality, Calico can be customized visually, allowing users to transform it into an adorable little animal with eyes expressive and reactions to touch.
