Scientists are perplexed by new theory about black hole formation

As researchers indicate, the key to understanding these enigmatic giants may lie in the collisions of nuclear star clusters.

Unlike previous theories, which pointed to stellar collapse as the main cause of black holes supermassive, Chilean scientists propose a revolutionary explanation based on the interactions of stellar clusters.

In turn, these clusters are formed by groupings of smaller stars, whose gravitational forces can lead to unique instability.

Astronomer Andrés Escala, affiliated with the University of Chile, clarifies that the formation of black holes is directly related to the critical mass present in nuclear stellar clusters.

Once this mass is exceeded, the constant collisions between the stars can begin the process of creating a black hole. A supermassive black hole is an astronomical entity with an extremely large mass, concentrated in a relatively small volume.

This type of black hole is found at the center of many galaxies, including our Milky Way. Its mass can be millions or even billions of times greater than the mass of our Sun.

To prove their theory, the scientists used the Kultrun supercomputer at the University of Concepción to carry out a computer simulation. Using this model, they were able to follow the evolution of stellar clusters in the nucleus of galaxies, predicting the growth and collisions between stars and other masses.

Complex mathematical analyzes reveal that the sum of these stars can, in fact, explain the existence of supermassive black holes, such as Sagittarius A.

This innovative theory challenges previous scientific conceptions about the origin of black holes and raises new questions about the nature of these enigmatic cosmic objects.

With the prospect of new research and observations, scientists are confident that they will be able to uncover even more fascinating secrets about the world of supermassive black holes.
