It went bad: Warner streaming loses almost 2 MILLION subscribers during transition

While some win, others lose. For those who thought the Netflix could lose subscribers after implementing charges for sharing subscriptions with other people, the news may be surprising.

Warner Bros. Discovery recorded a 1.8 million reduction in its U.S. streaming subscriber base during the April-June 2023 period, as reported by IndieWire. This period coincides with the launch of Max, the studio’s new streaming platform, in the North American territory.

For those who don’t remember, some time after the launch of HBO Max, Warner ended up acquiring Discovery and decided to unify its streaming platforms. So much so that the name changed to just Max, without encompassing anything more specific to the company.

Reduction in subscribers exceeds adhesion on Max

The decrease in subscribers in the second quarter of the year exceeded the increase of 1.6 million subscribers that Warner had announced between January and March. Over the past three months, the studio has faced a $3 million loss in the streaming sector.

In Brazil, there is still no set date for the launch of Max. During the transition period in the United States, the company announced that Latin America should receive the new streaming platform between September and December 2023.

In Warner streaming, you will find the company’s biggest hits, such as “Harry Potter”, “Game of Thrones”, “Friends”, films from the DC universe, “Sex and the City” and much more! Furthermore, with the unification, Discovery content, such as “Os Muquiranas”, “Pesos Mortais” and other programs can also be accessed.

Currently, only the services of HBO Max remain available here in Brazil. So much so that there is content available out there that has not yet reached here. So, stay tuned with the dates and don’t miss the unification of HBO Max and Discovery+ in Brazilian lands, which should happen soon!
