According to a study conducted by researchers from Norway, the world is becoming less intelligent. After examining more than 730,000 IQ (intelligence quotient) assessments, this was the conclusion they reached.
The research revealed a 7-point decrease in Intelligence Quotient (IQ) from one generation to the next. The most recent generation was classified as the least intelligent.
That phenomenon represents a reversal of the well-known Flynn Effect. This concept refers to the continuous increase in IQ test scores observed globally throughout the 20th century.
Since 1900, there has been an average increase of three points in IQ every decade in the world’s population. This phenomenon was named after scientist James Flynn, who identified this trend.
Conducted by the Ragnar Frisch Center for Economic Research, the search indicates that the peak of the Flynn Effect was identified in individuals born in the mid-1970s.
After this period, a decrease in IQ scores was observed.

Stuart Ritchie, a psychologist at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, who was not involved in the research, spoke about the subject.
“This is the most convincing evidence of a reversal of the Flynn effect.”
He concluded by saying the following:
“If you assume their model is correct, the results are impressive and worrying.”
According to research, changes in lifestyle may have contributed to the decrease in IQ levels. This includes factors such as the type of education currently offered to children and their activities, such as reduced time spent reading and greater involvement in social mediaamong other examples.
However, another point needs to be considered. Another possibility is that IQ tests may not have adapted accurately to measure intelligence of people in the modern era.
These assessments may be emphasizing forms of reasoning that are possibly not as valued in contemporary education and in the lifestyle of today’s young people.
