The last breath of Super Nintendo came with an immersive and visually enhanced narrative, through the game Metal Slader Glory: Director’s Cut, released exclusively in Japan on November 29, 2000.
This title was not just a game, but a milestone that celebrated the long and memorable journey of the SNES, which began in 1990 and continued to receive new titles until the year 2000.
“Metal Slader Glory: Director’s Cut” is an enhanced version of the original “Metal Slader Glory” game, which was released by HAL Laboratory for the FamiCom in 1991.
This title resurfaced on the SNES with redesigned graphics by Yoshimiru Hoshi, the game’s original creator, a new soundtrack, and additional scenes that were cut from the original release due to size restrictions.
This re-release not only brought visual improvements, but introduced additional story sequences, allowing players to explore the narrative deeper.

The distribution of the game was unique. Initially, it was available on pre-recorded cartridges, accompanied by collectible postcards. Starting December 1, 2000, players could take their Nintendo Power cartridges to a download station and, for a fee, copy the game to their cartridges.
The adventure in the game unfolds in a dystopian future, in which we follow the trajectory of orphan Tadashi Himukai. Peace tries to be restored after a major war between space colonies, but the plot takes an unexpected turn with the discovery of a Metal Slader robot, triggering a series of events that lead to shocking discoveries.
The simplicity of gameplay, typical of visual novels, contrasts with the depth of the story, providing around five hours of an engaging journey. And even with the language barrier, fan communities are dedicated to translating the game, expanding the reach of this narrative.
