A survey conducted by the Faculty of Public Health of USP (FSP-USP) revealed a worrying reality related to most toothbrushes available on the market.

The results obtained in this extensive survey indicate that approximately 82% of products intended for oral hygiene do not meet the minimum requirements necessary to adequately brush teeth.

The research consisted of a detailed analysis of more than 300 toothbrushes available in supermarkets, not limited to the city of São Paulo itself, but also including several other surrounding municipalities.

Inadequate brushing poses health risks

Leader of the research, dental surgeon Sônia Regina Cardim de Cerqueira Pestana identified that the main problem identified in the study refers to a very common characteristic in traditional toothbrushes.

This problem lies in the shape of the bristles, which are generally sharp. However, it would be more appropriate for them to be rounded in order to guarantee the safety and health of users.

This enabled a more comprehensive and accurate assessment of the quality of toothbrushes on the market, allowing the identification of recurring problems in the most common brushes.
