Chrome: Pause/resume downloads finally arrives on Android

It’s happened to all of us at least once on our phones: to start downloading and realize it’s not the file we wanted, or even completely by mistake clicking a random link.

Until then, we had to wait for the download to finish before we could delete the unintentionally received file. With Android N, the download manager improves and allows you to cancel an ongoing download.

But the one integrated into the Chrome app on Android didn’t have that very basic functionality yet. Fortunately, version 50 The latest version of the browser, currently available on the Dev channel, includes functionality to pause and resume downloads.

Chrome version 50 downloads

On the left, under Marshmallow, it shows Chrome in its current version and only an unhelpful notification, while on the right you can see: this is new version It runs on Android N and gives more control.

Previously it was possible to cancel a download, but you had to do it. close the app completely via phone settings. The download then pauses, but does not resume when the browser is restarted and is completely canceled.

The arrival of the pause/resume download feature will finally allow us to not waste our time on silly and banal mistakes and focus on what really matters to us: browsing Chrome as fast as possible.

One of all the little improvements that will make Android much more workable in a productivity environment. We especially think that the multi-window mode is finally natively integrated with Android N, making tablets under the Google system much more useful.
