Android 14: First beta from April 2023?

Although the first stable version of Android 13 has just been released by Google, it’s already time to return to its successor, Android 14. And the American firm gives us a size hint about the release window of the first beta of Android 14. FAQ posted on the site dedicated to the beta program of the mobile operating system.

When asked about the duration of beta programs, Google explains: “Android 13 QPR beta updates will continue until March 2023, followed by Android 14 betas”. The word QPR means: “Quarterly Platform Releases”, small quarterly updates. In a later communication, Google stated that Android 13 QPR follow-up will continue until June 2023. Pulling that date back to March 2023, we estimate that the company plans to release the Android 14 beta in the spring and “want to do that.” Avoid running two beta programs at once, Android 13 and Android 14, as with Android 12 and Android 13 in early 2022.

Android 14: Developer Preview in February, beta in April?

Google launched the first beta of Android 13 in April this year, a few weeks before the Google I/O conference kicked off. So Android 14 should follow a similar schedule, but this time the developers will get rid of support for the previous version of Android. The first Leveler Preview is expected in February and will give us important insights into the progress of this update.

In the same FAQ, Google added new information. Specifically, we’re learning that users may experience issues signing up for the beta program if the device isn’t running a general stable version of Android, such as the Developer Preview. “If you are unable to sign up for the program or install the beta update, try downloading the latest stable version on your device before signing up for the beta program”says Google.

With a smartphone enrolled in the beta program, you’ll be sure to get the upcoming Android 13 updates first, starting with QPR1 in September.
