However, with the help of Garoppolo’s untimely surgery on his shoulder, Trey Lance’s moment to shine finally came to the 49ers. His injury will leave him in a dangerous position to return to the NFL next season.
Trey Lance is poised to take over quarterback duties from Jimmy Garoppolo for the 49ers next season.
Leading NFL analyst Jeremy Fowler said the San Francisco 49ers were receiving signs from the ground that they could leave Garoppolo and hand the reins of quarterback duties to Trey Lance for next season.
“The market is not overly hot right now, largely due to Garoppolo’s shoulder surgery. Teams do not know when to shoot; may be later in the summer. And so, can a physical pass? These are the questions teams are asking right now.” Via the Bleacher report.
The report also alleged that the Carolina Panthers identified Jimmy Garoppolo as one of the potential options for a trade should he recover from a shoulder injury. According to Jeremy Fowler, all rumors point to rookie quarterback Lance making a start for the 49ers next season.
