4 Best Ways to Add Email to Gmail Email on Web and Mobile Devices

People use Gmail to attach all kinds of files. Cloud services like Drive are more preferred for attaching larger files, while anything under 25MB is still dragged and dropped onto the compose screen. However, files are not the only things users need to add. Often times, users also need to add email to Gmail email.

Previously, users had to download an email before attaching or forwarding it, which was not intuitive. Adding an email directly is much easier and saves valuable time, making the process seamless. Note that adding email to Gmail email is not the same on desktop and mobile. We explain it all.

Let’s start.

1. Right Click Menu Option

Using Gmail in a browser makes it easy to add an email to a new Gmail email. Right-click the email you want to attach and select the ‘Forward as attachment’ button.

This will open the Compose popup where you create a new email. Emails will be attached to the new Gmail email just like any other attachment.

Pre-select multiple emails to attach to the same email. Note that the 25MB attachment limit applies even when attaching an email in Gmail. However, there is no limit to the number of emails you can add. So what happens when emails are larger than 25MB in size? In this case, Gmail automatically uploads the emails to your Google Drive account if needed and attaches a link to the email. In either case, you don’t have to worry.

2. Drag and Drop to Create Window (Webapp)

This little trick makes the process more fun and equally fast. Click the Compose button to start writing a new email. You can drag and drop emails into the Compose window at the bottom right of the screen to add them.

Emails attached to Gmail will appear below the newly created email, just like regular attachments.

If you want to add multiple emails, first select all emails and then drag and drop them using the mouse, just like you would with files and folders in Windows.

This is the easiest and simplest way to attach emails to Gmail emails while composing, but it only works on desktop. There is no way to drag and drop emails in Gmail’s Android and iOS apps.

3. Attach Emails When Replying

We’ve seen how easy it is to add emails while browsing the Inbox or with the compose email window open. But how do you attach emails when replying to an existing Gmail email?

Stage 1: Open the email you replied to and select the Reply button to start the reply process. Type your message as you normally would and then click on the ‘New window’ button that opens.

Step 2: This will open the email in a new window. Now, go back to the Inbox in the previous window, select the emails you want to add and drag and drop them into the other window where you created the reply.

4. Use the Print to PDF Option

Unfortunately, there is no direct way to add emails in the Gmail mobile apps. This applies to both Android and iOS smartphones. However, we found a workaround to this problem.

Stage 1: Open the Gmail app on your smartphone. We’re using Android as an example, but this works on both platforms. Open the email you want to attach and tap the three-dot menu icon. Select the Print option here.

Step 2: Tap the PDF icon to download the email as a PDF file. If the button is not visible and you are viewing the Print option instead, select Save as PDF from the drop-down menu.

Stage 3: Your phone’s default File Manager app opens, allowing you to choose a location or create a new folder to save the PDF file. Now all you have to do is compose a new email in Gmail and attach the PDF file containing your email.

In our case, File Manager did not want to choose a name for the PDF file. However, you can change this later. Also, there is no way to print multiple emails and with this extension save them as PDF files on smartphone at the same time. You will have to do it one by one.

A smartphone can be used to attach emails to a Gmail email, but it should only be considered when you have no other choice or when things can’t wait until you get in front of a computer. Otherwise, adding email to Gmail using a computer is much better and much faster.

Note: Attached email files are in .EML format and clicking the same file will open the attached Gmail emails in a new window on the recipient’s computer.

The ability to attach emails to Gmail emails is pretty cool and useful. Especially when you want to add multiple emails because by default Gmail does not allow users to forward multiple emails at once. You can only forward one email at a frustrating time.
