Often times, we want to hide some sensitive photos and videos from our phones. Few vault apps offer the ability to hide photos. But why would someone install a separate vault app when gallery apps can accomplish the same thing? In this post, we have selected five handpicked gallery apps to hide photos on Android phones.
Gallery apps will serve a dual purpose. They can be used to view photos and help hide them. All the gallery apps mentioned below come with the option to hide photos in the free version.
Let’s take a look at Android gallery apps that will help to hide photos from others.
1. Simple Gallery
If you ask me my favorite third-party gallery app for Android, it has to be Simple Gallery. The name is a bit misleading when you consider its features, but it stays true to the name when it comes to its user-friendly nature. The app comes with all the features expected of a good gallery app. One of them is the ability to hide photos and videos.
You can hide the entire folder or only selected files. To hide any file or folder, tap on the three-dot icon at the top and select Hide from the menu.

Interestingly, you can temporarily view hidden files by tapping the three-dot icon on the app’s home screen. Then select Show as Temporarily hidden. Alternatively, go to Settings and enable Show hidden files. To show files or folder, temporarily view hidden files and then tap the three dots icon. Select Show from the menu.

You can even protect your confidential files with a password. If that’s not enough, you can password protect the entire app. Both of these features are available in app Settings.

2. 1Gallery
Another interesting gallery app is the 1Gallery app. It offers a separate folder known as the Secure folder to hide your photos and videos. You need to add your files to this folder. The folder can be protected with a fingerprint, pin or pattern. The app brags about encrypted confidential files.
To add a photo to the secure album, open the file in the app and tap the three-dot icon. Select Move to secure from the menu. Go to the application settings to manage the password and mode of the secure folder.


Other app features include a built-in photo editor, video editor, video playback with subtitles, and themes. The app offers various sorting and layout modes. You can even view individual videos and search for large files using this app.
3. A+ Gallery
Similar to the 1Gallery app, the A+ Gallery app offers a Safe vault folder. You can hide and protect the folder using a password. You can even back up files added to the secure folder to the cloud.


To add a photo to the safe, open the photo and press the three dots icon. Select Move to safe vault. Alternatively, open the Safe vault and tap the add (+) icon at the top. Select the photos you want to add to the list.

The A+ Gallery app allows you to hide photos on your Android phone as well as supports Dropbox, Facebook etc. offers the ability to view photos online from services. The Gallery app offers powerful search, including the ability to view by color. And yes, the gallery app comes with a native photo editor.
4. F-Stop Gallery
F-Stop Gallery is a powerful gallery app with many features. You can hide the entire folder or selected photos and videos. Confidential files can be protected with a pin, pattern or fingerprint sensor.
To hide files, first add a lock from Gallery settings. Once added, tap and hold the thumbnail view of the selected photos you want to hide. Tap the three-dot icon and select Protect media. You can view and access the protected folder from the left sidebar.

Other features include powerful search with (and or) logical operations, custom sorting using drag and drop, themes, nested folders, smart folders, excluded folders, and much more.
5. Gallery
Yes, this gallery app is called Gallery. The neatly designed Gallery app offers features such as various viewing and sorting modes. The app even supports a recycle bin, themes, and folder exclusion feature.
To hide photos in this app, tap and hold the photo in the thumbnail view and tap the three dots icon. Select Move to media vault from the menu. You can protect the safe using pin lock, pattern and fingerprint. The vault is accessible from the left sidebar.

Bonus App: Google Photos
You may already have the Google Photos app on your phone. So you don’t need to install any third party app to hide photos. You can hide photos using the archive feature of Google Photos. The above gallery apps allow you to easily hide your photos and videos from prying eyes. However, if you decide to uninstall the gallery app, we recommend showing the photos. This way, photos can also be hidden from other gallery apps.
