How to Add and Use Sleep Timer on YouTube Music

If you often sleep with the music on, the sleep timer proves to be one of the most useful features. As you know, these timers turn off the music or video on your phone after a certain period of time. All you have to do is set the timer and fall asleep. The music will stop automatically. While it’s a nifty feature, YouTube Music currently doesn’t have a built-in sleep timer, which is a huge bummer. Fortunately, there are some nifty workarounds for both Android and iPhone users.

The operation of these timers is similar to the built-in timers of other music applications. When it comes to iOS, you don’t need to install any third-party apps, but if you’re using an Android phone, you’ll need help from third-party apps like Sleep Timer.

Whatever the method, the app is easy and the sleep timer on youtube Music works like a charm.

Now that the decision is made, let’s see how to add a sleep timer to YouTube Music.

How to Add and Use Sleep Timer for YouTube Music on iOS

As mentioned earlier, adding sleep timer to iPhones is very easy.

Stage 1: Play the music you want on YouTube Music. Next, go to the Clock app on your iPhone.

Tap Timer.

Step 2: Tap When Timer Ends. Here, you will see a number of options.

Scroll down and select Stop Playing from the menu. This much.

With the option selected play your favorite song and start a small 2 minute timer and after 2 minutes see the magic happen.

Quite naturally, searching and opening the Clock app every time is a task. Fortunately, this little task can be easily automated via Shortcuts.

For those unaware, iOS Shortcuts is a workflow app that lets you create dozens of custom workflows and shortcuts to automate everyday unnecessary tasks. For example, you can set it to open the music app of your choice when Bluetooth Pairing detects it. Or you can create a shortcut to add the currently playing song to your playlist. And yes, you can automate the YouTube Music workflow too.

Stage 1: Open the Shortcuts app and tap the Plus button in the top right corner.

This method has some limitations. For example, you cannot play with the timer’s time. Once set and enabled, it will stop playing the music when the time is up.

However, if you want to customize the Shortcut further, you are free to add additional If-Else statements in between.

Sleep Timer gives you a buffer time of approximately 25 seconds to select the music. When the timer is up, it will slowly decrease the volume and mute the music. This is a big plus compared to the sudden end in iOS.

At the same time, Sleep Timer gives you lots of music apps to choose from. You can also extend the timer if you don’t want to go with the default schedule. There are a few additional quirks like Shake to Extend for you to explore more.

If you’re using a long timer, make sure to remove the app from the Battery Optimization list. This is especially true if your smartphone uses aggressive battery saving techniques.

The sleep timer app is free to use. Upgrading to the paid version unlocks features like Widgets and a Tile for the Quick Settings menu.

Sleep well

Sleep timers are essential for many of us who love to listen to our favorite songs while falling asleep. It’s also a pity that popular apps like YouTube Music don’t have this essential feature. The good thing is, there are apps and built-in methods that accomplish this.
