The immense popularity of Microsoft Word is the reason why users enjoy a host of features. Whether you use Word for personal or professional purposes, it is important to understand the effective techniques that make working with the software easier.
For example, what do you do when you have several images in your Word document and you need to save one or more of them as separate files? Microsoft Word may not have provided specific ways to do this, but there are specific ways to achieve this feat. In this article, we will show you three of them.
Manually Saving Individual Pictures
This is an excellent method to use when you only have a few images in the document. Here’s how it works:
Stage 1: Launch the Microsoft Word document containing the images.

Step 2: Select the picture you want to save and right click on it.

Stage 3: Select Save As Image from the list of options.

Step 4: In File Explorer, click the drop-down menu next to Save as type and select your preferred file format.

Step 5: Enter a name for your image file by typing it in the File name box.

Step 6: Select the destination folder for the image you saved.
Step 7: Click Save.

What if you have several images to save from your document? This method will take a lot of time and effort. Check the next method to learn how to save multiple images.
Saving Multiple Images by Saving a Word File as a Web Page
Certain Word documents contain up to 200 images. Imagine using the above method to save each image individually. There is a simpler way to save multiple images in one Word file. It involves saving the Word file as a web page.
A web page stores resources, including images, as separate files in HTML. Therefore, if you save your Word file as a web page, the document will be converted to an HTML page. This saves all images in the document in a different folder. Here’s what you need to do:
Stage 1: Launch the Microsoft Word document containing the images.

Step 2: Click File from the Ribbon.

Stage 3: Click Save As and select Browse.

Step 4: In the File Explorer menu, click the drop-down list next to Save as type.

Step 5: Select Web Page from the available options.
Step 6: Click Save to save your Word file as a web page.

Step 7: Start File Explorer and navigate to the location of the document.

Step 8: Once you find the location, you will see the last folder with the Word filename you just saved. Open the folder and find all the images in the document.

Step 9: If you want, you can rename each of the images and move them to a separate location.

Save Images by Extracting them with an Archiving Application
The last method we will discuss is to extract the images using a zip application. Note that this trick only works with Microsoft Word files saved as zip files. Using this format saves your document as a package, making it possible to open the folder and extract its contents. The following steps will guide you in using this method:
Stage 1: Start File Explorer and navigate to the location of the Microsoft Word document containing the images.

Step 2: Right-click the file and select Rename.

Stage 3: Change the file extension from .DOCX to .ZIP and press Enter on your keyboard.

Step 4: In the dialog, click Yes to confirm the file extension change.

Step 5: Right-click the renamed file and select Open. You should see all the images in the document.

Step 6: You can extract the contents of the folder using the Extract button of the Zip application or by copying the contents to a new location.
