Jorge Masvidal is as “street gangster” as can be. The Florida native isn’t called “Gamebred” for no reason. Masvidal can be intimidating inside the octagon, and the flying array may terrify a few opponents, but at the microphone, Ariel Helwani couldn’t care less about the fighter’s skills.
It takes a special skill to distract a fighter like Masvidal in a one-on-one meeting, and Helwani has it all. “How old were you when you went to prison?” Helwani asked, and Masvidal immediately made it clear that he didn’t want to talk about it. “JUMP,” said Masvidal, trying to move forward in the conversation.
“Can I ask you about your father?” Watching Helwani just to throw another curveball, he said: “He went to jail too.” Clearly, Helwani couldn’t sense the tone in Masvidal’s voice. Accessories for “Gamebred”, as it wears on the chin and does not lose its calm in front of it UFC 244. They don’t make reporters like Ariel Helwani anymore. What is Jorge Masvidal’s criminal record?

Masvidal doesn’t have the cleanest record outside of the octagon. Hailing from Miami, Florida, the fighter has had his own troubles with the law in the past and also very recently. The son of a Cuban father and Peruvian mother is no stranger to prison. Masvidal’s father was jailed and spent more than 20 years in prison for multiple crimes.
Although Masvidal did his best not to follow the same path as his father, the fighter got into trouble several times. Masvidal was charged with illegal possession of firearms, grand auto theft, trespassing on a property, disorderly poisoning and, very recently, physical assault in 2022.
After losing to Colby Covington, Masvidal ambushed his longtime opponent and also broke the fighter’s tooth. The case is still under investigation.
