One of the active issues that has plagued the NFL since its inception is the lack of inclusivity in the league. There are many black and minority players in the league, so there is no problem with representation. However, in terms of inclusivity when it comes to the coaching staff, the NFL is still in 1950. To date, the league has not had many coaches and managers with minority backgrounds. The Rooney rule was introduced almost two decades ago, but it didn’t do much to improvise the situation.
According to this rule, teams must interview at least two or more different colors and/or women while trying to fill an important position in their organization. Teams have already found a way to get around this, organizations are meeting with minorities even if they have already decided on another coach. By meeting only people and women of color, teams avoid responsibility because they follow the Rooney Rule.

Half of all NBA teams now have a Black Head Coach, something the NFL can only achieve in a virtual world:
The Los Angeles Lakers recently hired Darwin Ham as Head Coach, resulting in nearly half of the teams in the NBA having a Black head coach. The scenario is very different in the NFL, with the exception of Mike Tomlin, Brian Flores, and Lovie Smith, the only black coaches in key positions. Tomlin and Flores are on the same team, and if you remember, Flores is even suing the NFL for discriminatory recruitment practices.
