Ryan was roped in by the Falcons in 2008 and it turned out to be a big investment for them. In his rookie year for the Atlanta-based franchise, he started all 16 games and played a key role in leading his team to the playoffs. As expected, he was named NFL rookie of the year.
After showing consistent performances, he signed a massive $150 million five-year extension with the Colts, making him the league’s highest paid quarterback at $30 million a year. Last season, however, the Falcons had a pretty dismal run and they decided to trade him to the Colts.

Recently, Mat On The Ryen Russillo Podcast, he talked about how he felt about leaving a series he spent a lot of time with. He claimed he would have been with the Falcons this season had he not gone after Deshaun Watson.
“I got involved in their cycle of investigating Deshaun Watson.. At that point, I was like, ‘Okay, I get it’, you know, but I also need to look at what to look for and if that doesn’t work, find out if this is probably still the best fit. for me,” He claimed.
Ryan claimed that even he himself began to look for other options for himself and eventually found the Colts. He added that if it wasn’t for the Deshaun episode, he would likely have stayed with the Atlanta-based franchise.
“Um, you know, if none of this had gone, there’s probably a chance.. Pretty good chance. But it was, you know, when it was, when the situation changed, when the circumstances changed, you know, I thought like everybody else, when you were drafted there and you played there, this is my place. I’ll play my whole career,” He claimed.
He then went on to add that he gave absolutely everything to the Falcons when he was with them. “For 14 years, I woke up every day to help the Falcons win a championship. And that worked out for me at the other extreme. And when that changed, I had to research it, and it was definitely a big change, but a good change.“said.
“I mean, it’s hard to say, but I honestly think, you know, I’d probably still be there if the circumstances were different. But I’m excited from where I am‘ he added.
