The New York Giants see Daniel Jones as the man, but they don’t have enough confidence that they’re willing to use the fifth-year option on his rookie deal.

The Giants are happy with what Jones has done for the entire organization and even on the team’s off-season schedule. GM said the team was “excited” to be working with Jones. The team has strengthened their offensive line this season. In addition, RB Saquon Barkley is once again healthy and is expected to play next season. In light of all these events, the NY Giants think this is the best overall situation for them.

“Good problem to have, you also have the franchise label if you need it a year from now. It’s a gamble, I’d say it’s an $8 million gamble, or you’re talking to his agents and trying to stretch it out.“
Schoen said that the team had prepared all the necessary weapons for him on the offensive side, and that Jones “put your best foot forward.’ Daniel Jones’ future seems to be determined after his performance this season.
The QB franchise label has grown significantly from $29 million in 2022 to somewhere around $34 million in 2023. The Giants are essentially gambling on Daniel Jones.
However, it seems okay for them to prefer to regret not choosing the player option because he played great, rather than regret taking the option because he didn’t play great.
When asked if Jones was motivated by the decision not to take him, Schoen replied, “I don’t think Daniel needs motivation, I think he is a naturally motivated kid. It is a beginning, it is always here. I don’t think Daniel needs any encouragement to go out and give a high performance. I think he really wants to be great. This is how he approaches the game. While encouraging, I don’t think there is a child who needs encouragement or carrots to perform well.“
Other teams that did not exercise fifth-year options, such as the Bears and Browns, did not have a significant impact on the Giants’ decision on Jones.
“We looked at what was best for the New York Giants and listen again, we’ve known Daniel for three months, we look forward to working with him and we thought this was the best option for us to move forward,Schoen said what the other teams did had no bearing on the NY Giants’ decisions.
The Giants will need to reconsider their stance on Daniel Jones in 2023, this may or may not be obvious, but everything will depend on how the QB is doing and the team’s overall performance this season.
