“Changing time?” LA Rams plans to submit detailed bid to NFL to ‘roughly review passerby call’ amid end-of-office debates

Controversial calls by the referee in recent games have given the LA Rams hope for an application to change the rules of the competition.

The Rams planned to resubmit their application for a rule change that would allow the teams to roughly review the setter call that has received much criticism recently.

In Week 5 of the NFL’s 2022/23 season, there were two controversial games that caused outrage from both fans and teams. These unnecessary penalties were given to Grady Jarrett of Atlanta and one to the Chiefs. Chris Jones.

In the midst of the boom, and this time with support from the public on their side, the Rams feel that the rule change proposal would work better with the NFL committee.

Last season, the Rams submitted the same proposal to the committee for a possible rule change, but was unanimously rejected by a 9-0 vote and didn’t even appear on stage. It feels different this time though.

The reason the Rams are pushing for the rule change is because of the bad referees, but statistics say otherwise. During Week 5 of the NFL, bully penalties are down 45% this season. The NFL saw 51 in the 2021/22 season, but dropped significantly to 28 in 2022/23.

The NFL committee consists of six team owners and four head coaches. When the NFL owners meet for a meeting on Tuesday, the Rams’ court will be decided among those spectators.

Troy Vincent, vice president of the NFL, also discussed the possible rule change on ESPN’s pre-game show. Vincent noted that the NFL would be open to any potential progressive rule change.

Making hard exits at passers-by has been a controversial issue since week 5, as the searches were game-changing and caused a lot of anger in the fans.

The NFL had decided something similar before, but the experiment failed and the rule was not considered next season. The NFL rulebook notes: “Whenever you are in doubt about a call for roughness or a potentially dangerous tactic against the quarterback, the referee should always call for hardening against the pass.” about vulgarizing a passerby call.
