Apple will let you pay for your Netflix and Spotify subscriptions without going through the App Store

The new rules, which take effect today, require developers of reading apps (primarily apps aimed at providing access to digital content like Netflix, Kindle or Spotify) creating links to their site for things like managing or creating accounts, but also for payments.

Previous App Store guidelines previously prevented such apps from linking to their websites. However, a recent US court decision has forced Apple to relax its rules regarding payment connections outside of the App Store, so developers can finally redirect users to their own sites.

Developers will be able to bypass App Store commission

Apple’s new policy will allow reader app developers to persuade their users to sign up from their website. Thus, companies will be able to bypass the App Store payment system, received commissions between 15% and 30% on sales so far.

Google launched a similar initiative a few days ago. Indeed, the American giant announced that it is collaborating with Spotify to allow users to do so without the need for the Play Store to pay for their subscription. Like this, The Android app will therefore have two separate buttons placed “side by side”.This allows users to choose between Spotify website and Google Play Store to pay for their subscription.

We imagine the process would be pretty similar in the Spotify app on iOS. Anyway, this is good news for developers who can eventually make more profits. by freeing themselves of some of the commission they have to pay Apple For purchases made through the App Store.
