A jailbreak for the iPhone is currently MIA and the Apple Watch is in the same camp, but here are six things we’d like to see if or when an Apple Watch jailbreak arrives.
The ability to jailbreak an iPhone has been around for years, almost as long as the iPhone has been around. However, an Apple Watch jailbreak would definitely be something new, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see it.
We’re fast approaching the one-year mark of the first release of the Apple Watch, and while it’s still a relatively new device, many Apple Watch users are looking forward to the Apple Watch jailbreak, especially as it will allow for more customization. new wearable.
While I didn’t buy the Apple Watch at the time it was released, I did have a pre-owned model for sale and have spent some quality time with it so far. Overall, I really like it, but there are some aspects that would be much better with the Apple Watch jailbreak.
That said, here are six things we’d like to see with the Apple Watch jailbreak.
Hide Stock Apps
Just like on the iPhone, Stocks, Workouts, Weather, etc., especially if you use your own third-party Apple Watch apps. There are some Apple Watch apps that you’ll probably never use.
However, you cannot hide stock apps on Apple Watch; this can make the app layout a bit crowded especially if you have lots of apps.
The app layout is already a bit messy, and finding a specific app in a mess can be tricky. I prefer a layout like in iOS where the apps are arranged in a nice grid. Maybe that also provides a great jailbreak feature.
Change What Physical Buttons Do
The Apple Watch has two physical buttons (three if you count the rotation of the Digital Crown). These buttons have different purposes, so pressing the side button will open the Friends screen. If you press the Digital Crown, the application layout appears.
Quickly connect with friends with a tap of the side button on Apple Watch.
It would be great if an Apple Watch jailbreak tweak is released that lets you change what the buttons do. For example, if you don’t like the way the side button opens the Friends screen, you can have the button open a specific app instead.
Same with Digital Crown. You can remap the button to another action, preferably whatever you want.
Automatically Silence iPhone Alerts
When you wear your Apple Watch, you’ll clearly receive notifications and alerts on your wrist, but unless you manually set your iPhone to silent mode, you’ll get those notifications and alerts on both your iPhone and Apple Watch.
It’s usually okay to mute your iPhone, as you can do this by flipping the physical switch on the side of the device and turning it back when you’re not wearing your Apple Watch, but it’s a great feature. The great Apple Watch jailbreak tweak would be the ability to automatically mute your iPhone while wearing your Apple Watch.
The Apple Watch already knows when you wear it and when you don’t, so it would probably be pretty easy to add an Activator action to mute/unlock your iPhone when this happens.
Disable Time Travel and Other Features
Time Travel is a feature on Apple Watch that lets you spin the Digital Crown to jump into the future and fast forward time to see upcoming events or reminders you tapped.
The only problem with this feature is that you can accidentally activate Time Travel by turning the Digital Crown too little, so it can be annoying sometimes.
However, an Apple Watch jailbreak tweak could disable Time Travel for those who don’t really use it that much.
Also, an Apple Watch jailbreak allows you to disable other features that you may not be able to use to make room for other actions and features you will use.
Real Third-Party Watch Faces
Apple says you can somehow create your own custom watch faces, but it’s really not as custom or third-party as they make you believe. There is a new feature called Complications that lets you add third-party app features to a watch face, but that’s pretty much the scope of third-party watch faces.
My favorite Apple Watch face shows important information with just a glance.
With an Apple Watch jailbreak, you have the ability to install third-party watch faces created by other users, similar to what Android Wear users have experienced.
Sure, you can get creative with stock watch faces and upload a photo to give a watch face some personality, but users want the ability to completely customize and create completely new watch faces from scratch.
Honestly, if there’s a reason I’d want an Apple Watch jailbreak, it’s probably for custom third-party watch faces.
Use Side Scrolling
I feel like there’s a lot that isn’t used on the Apple Watch, especially swiping left or right when the watch face is up.
Swiping in either direction can bring up Glances or other features. Swiping up will reveal the looks, but this will be a faster way to access them.
Swiping left or right can also act as shortcuts to bring up your favorite third-party apps, so you don’t have to click on the digital crown and go looking for an app you want to open.
