Instagram introduced a new side-scrolling method for browsing on December 27. If you hate the new side scrolling feature that Instagram has just rolled out, this is how you can revert to the old Instagram feed scroll.
Many users woke up this morning to find their Instagram feed side scrolled instead of scrolling up and down. This is something Instagram has been testing for a while, but it’s the first widespread distribution.
Instagram stated that this should be a small test “more broadly than we expected”. You can quickly revert to the old feed, whether it’s a real mistake or if Instagram is returning because of too much backlash.

Now that Instagram has pulled the side-scrolling feed, you will need to exit the app to revert to the old feed.
On iPhone, double-tap the home button or swipe up if you don’t have a home button.
Then swipe up in the Instagram app to close Instagram. Now when you open the app, it should go back to the old up and down swipe.
If that doesn’t fix the problem, you’ll have to force quit the app once or twice. This will eventually fix the problem and get you back to normal feeding.
On Android phones, you have to press the multitasking button and then swipe to close Instagram. Reboot and see if the old scrolling returns. If not, try exiting the app again and then using it.
It should already be taken back. If you still see it, just restart your app and you’re good to go.

If none of this works, you should try uninstalling Instagram and then reinstalling it as this can fix many Instagram issues.
