This is why Valorant won’t have map selection

Since the game’s release, Valorant map rotation RNG has been an issue. Although there are currently seven maps in rotation, the game still lacks a map select function and now we know why.

Valorant was released in only four locations and without the option to choose a map. Players initially grumbled that they had to play the same map six times in a row. More diversity in the map pool could solve the problem, according to Riot Games. Although seven maps are currently available, many players are still having trouble with the issue.

Despite these player complaints, senior competitive designer EvrMoar clarified why Valorant doesn’t have a map select functionality.

Why can’t you choose your own maps in Valorant?

According to EvrMoar, the current approach forces players to review all maps rather than selecting the same one or two maps over and over, which improves the game’s overall skill level. High-ranking Valorant players deserve their badges in the current patch for excelling in all areas.

According to EvrMoar, a ban-pick system will cause players to choose a simpler map to raise the rankings faster. This will have an impact on the ranking experience as the player population will be split between real top players and those ranked by spamming the same map. As a result, the current method provides a more balanced skill set. At least that’s what Riot Games claims.

“Players don’t waste time learning a new map they might love! Not knowing a map is too bad, but if the community always avoids it, it can make a fun map out of the game. Who knows what the future will bring, VALORANT youth!” said EvrMoar.

Players, on the other hand, are uncomfortable having to play the same maps over and over. Although the increased amount of maps means that they don’t have to play the same map six times in a row, some players still experience streaks of playing the same map too often. Because the map rotation RNG is imperfect, players want more influence on the maps they play.
