More about MAPPA studio
Although it was founded in 2011, MAPPA has roots that go back even further.
Animation veteran Masao Maruyama, with a career spanning over 40 years, founded the studio after leaving the renowned Madhouse, where he discovered talents such as Satoshi Kon and Mamoru Hosoda. His quest for creative freedom gave rise to MAPPA.
The studio’s first production, ‘Kids on the Slope’, directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, highlighted music, especially jazz, with the collaboration of Yoko Kano.
Until 2016, Maruyama was the driving force behind the studio, creating an environment that became a hotbed of artists and talented directors.
