Atari wants to return to the market and APPEALS to nostalgia; understand

Nowadays, one of the biggest markets in the world is the gaming industry. Regardless of what you think or don’t think about video games, their presence and impact on the global economy is undeniable. Games generate thousands of jobs, not only for the production and development industry, but also for gamers.

For example, we see many people who make their living in the gaming industry, producing content for the internet, whether playing, commenting or bringing news. And then there are professional gamers, since eSports is an emerging category of competitive games.

Therefore, the impact of electronic games on the world is undeniable, whether in its economy, entertainment or even in sports.

But where did it all start and who was responsible for popularizing games? Although this was not a unique action by a single company, there is no doubt that Atari deserves to be highlighted for having greatly increased the popularity of games.

The company reached its peak in the 70s and 90s, becoming very successful around the world, but mainly in the United States.

However, as is common in the industry, companies go through ups and downs, and despite still being in the market, Atari does not have the strength it once had. Even so, the company has not given up on returning to the spotlight in the market and is banking on nostalgia to do so.

Atari intends to return to the market with old games

When we talk about gaming companies, it’s very likely that you think of Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft. Or even some game production studio, such as Rockstar, Blizzard or CD Projekt Red. Atari wants to be remembered as one of the current producers, and not as an “old guard” of games.

To do this, the company decided to bet on the nostalgia of older fans and the way it made history in gaming. But what does this mean? Recently, more precisely in March of this year, the company acquired the game studio Nightidive, thus jointly acquiring ownership of several classics.

The company’s intention is to bring these old games into the present day, somewhat reminiscent of what was done with the “DOOM” franchise, for example. Therefore, in a current wave of remakes of games that marked the history of the industry, the company’s bet could not come at a better time.

“Reinventing old classics, reimagining stories and developing entirely new narratives inspired by the games that defined the course of an entire industry.”
