Cinema and streaming unite at Max: A24 and Warner Bros. form alliance

A Warner Bros. Discovery announced, on Wednesday (6), an innovative partnership with the renowned producer and distributor A24.

The deal highlights the exclusivity of A24’s upcoming releases on HBO, Max and Cinemax platforms, immediately after their theatrical releases. Titles from A24’s catalog will also be available on Warner Bros. streaming services.

The alliance will bring highly anticipated titles such as ‘Priscilla’, directed by Sofia Coppola and centered on the life of Priscilla Presley, and ‘The Iron Claw’, starring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White, directly to Warner platforms.

A24, known for its production and distribution of artistically acclaimed independent films, joins forces with Warner Bros., an entertainment giant that recently merged with Discovery.

As a result of this merger, the HBO and Discovery+ streaming services converged in the United States, forming HBO Max.

With the groundbreaking deal, A24’s films will be released across Warner’s platforms — HBO Max, HBO channel and television network Cinemax — immediately after its release in theaters, forming part of the producer’s entire catalog.

The partnership comes after the end of the collaboration between A24 and Paramount Global Showtime earlier this year. In Brazil, the network had the Paramount+ streaming service, while in the US, it had the Showtime channel.

Among the highlighted films that will migrate to the Max catalog, according to the Variety website, are the Oscar winners ‘Everything, Everywhere at the Same Time’ and ‘The Whale’, as well as hits such as ‘Uncut Gems’ and the highly anticipated ‘Past Lives’, tipped for the Oscar.

However, it is worth noting that, to date, this distribution agreement between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery is valid exclusively in the United States.

In Brazil, the arrival of streaming Max is scheduled for early 2024, but there is still no information about a partnership for the national market.

Anticipation and curiosity grow as Brazilian moviegoers await more details about this exciting union between cinema and streaming.
