Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh He got a notification from Goa tourism department for giving his villa for homestay without registering it with regulatory authorities. He was also asked to attend a personal hearing on the matter at 11:00 on 8 December.
According to the Goa Tourist Trade Registration Act 1982, it is mandatory to register with the tourism department with the homestay. Such failure can lead to a fine of up to Rs 1 Lakh. The villa ‘Casa Singh’ is located in Morjim, North Goa and is allegedly available for booking on online platforms.
“Varchewada, Morjim, Pernem, goa allegedly functions as a homestay and is flagged on online platforms like Airbnb” said the statement issued by Rajesh Kale, Deputy Director of Tourism.

Yuvraj Singh could face fine
The statement also asked Yuvraj Singh to justify why criminal action should not be taken against him for not registering homestay with the relevant institution. “Anyone who wishes to operate a Hotel/Guesthouse must apply for registration with the Envisaged Authority, as prescribed, before operating. Therefore, here is a notice to you why criminal action should not be taken against you for defaulting on your registration under the Goa Tourism Trade Registration Act 1982. he said.
Singh has to give a response to the notice by 8 December, but if he doesn’t he will be fined a large sum. “The grounds set forth in the notice will be deemed to be correct and you will be penalized with a fine of up to ₹ one lakh under Section 22 or for any such presumption that violates any provision of the Law.” Announcement added.
