While the 138 goal might seem easy for the British batters to chase comfortably, Pakistani bowlers had other things on their minds. Shaheen Shah Afridi once again drew first blood with fresh ball, kicking Alex Hales off the last ball of the first round (a ball or two missed).
Haris Rauf sacked second batsman Phil Salt for fourth. After the wicket, Jos Buttler and Harry Brook tried to balance the innings. In the fifth inning, Babar Azam passed the ball to Naseem Shah for wicket and continued to pressure Naseem Buttler with long balls, but the second’s six-shot at least helped him take the pressure off. In sixth place, however, Rauf picked up where Naseem left off.
Buttler scored 26 points from 17 balls and shot three fours and sixes. On the third ball of the sixth round, Rauf sent a long ball that Buttler returned. Mohammed Rizvan behind the logs. England’s top scorer left and Pakistan took full control of the match.
However, Brook and Ben Stokes played heavy hits, but continued to move the leaderboard until Shadab Khan broke the partnership at 13th. He threw the ball wide and Brook took it long distance. Even though Moeen was sacked in the penultimate episode, the job was already done. Stokes had a sizzling kick at the start but sped up in the final overs. He had a game-winning shot at the ODI World Cup in 2019 and a game-winning shot at the T20 World Cup in 2022.
Indeed, in the crucial moments, Stokes showed what a valuable player he is. He had an unbeaten 52 laps with five quads and a maximum of 49 balls to lead England on target. In the end, England became the T20 World Cup 2022 champions, becoming the second team after the West Indies to lift the trophy twice.
