“I am more mature and experienced in terms of my decision-making and captaincy skills,” Shreyas Iyer said in his first interview with KKR.

Kolkata Knight Riders named Shreyas Iyer as their new captain on February 16. KKR released Eoin Morgan to purchase Iyer for Rs 12.25 crore from the auction in Bengaluru ahead of the IPL 2022 season.

The KKR franchise met Iyer for the first time as captain. When asked about the auction, Iyer said that his heartbeat was racing and from the very beginning he couldn’t control his emotions while watching KKR’s bid for him. After Knight Riders signed him, he said he was great.

Asked about his expectations at KKR, Iyer said that he is the captain of a player and wants to create an atmosphere where all players will think about winning.

“If I was coming to KKR now, I would obviously have a different mindset. I am more mature and experienced in terms of my decision making and captaincy skills.” Iyer said more.

Brendon McCullum excited to see Shreyas Iyer at KKR

Team coach Brendon McCullum on behalf of Iyer said: “I am thrilled to have one of India’s brightest future leaders take the reins at KKR at Shreyas Iyer. I remotely enjoyed Shreyas’s play and captaincy skills and now look forward to working closely with him to advance the success and style of play we want at KKR.”

when asked about Brendon McCullum “He was very aggressive and a bit of a risk taker and I love it!” said.

Iyer’s message to KKR fans: “I’m really looking forward to being on the field, this time I’m representing KKR because I’ve always been the opposite and could feel the crowd cheering for their team. When I represent you this time, I hope you guys are in the stadiums and cheering for us. I look forward to this excitement and see that at the end of the day we will win the championship. Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo.”

During his tenure as captain at Delhi Capitals, Iyer led the team to its first final of 2020. But an injury forced him out of the first phase of IPL 2021, where Rishabh Pant led the Delhi-based club. It was not held by Delhi Capitals prior to this year’s auction.
