Virender Sehwag isn’t just known for his explosive kick, he’s constantly making headlines for appropriate replies, witty comments, and trolling someone.
When India clashes with its arch-rival Pakistan, there is a lot to watch in the match. The match is a feeling not only for the fans, but also for the players of both teams. Players take the field with extra pressure as both countries have high expectations from them.
Fans and cricketers revisit memory lanes because when we hear untold stories, we remember epic moments and taste the best events that happened in matches between arch-rivals.
One such story is about something that happened in 2003. World Cup between India and Pakistan. Sehwag and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar were hitting and Pakistani pioneer Shoaib Akhtar was bowling but kept saying things to Tendulkar and Sehwag to distract them.
It’s been 19 years since that incident. Akhtar continued to comment and once threw a bouncer during that match. He asked Sehwag “hook maarkar dikha” (dare to play hook kick). Sehwag told him “Tera baap (Tendulkar) end par khada traitor without striker, usko bol wo maarkar dikhayega” (Your father, Tendulkar is on the non-forward end. Tell him to break it).
On Akhtar’s next, he threw a bouncer at Tendulkar. Tendulkar hit a hook and scored a six. Thus, Sehwag later said to Akhtar, “Beta beta hota hain aur baap baap hota hain” (Son remains a son and father is father).
Sehwag revisited this event on Star Sports’ show. Star Sport’s official Twitter account shared the clip of the video.

Shoaib Akhtar denied this
However, Akhtar denied that Sehwag had ever said such a thing to him. On a radio show in 2020, Akhtar was asked about the incident, “Aisa kuch nahi hua. Hota toh ana jaakar uski pitaai karta aur phir hotel ben bhi jaakar peetta. Aapko pata traitor main winter tarah ka aadmi hoon.” (Such a thing did not happen. If there was such a thing, then I would go to Sehwag and beat him up. I would beat him at the hotel too. You know what kind of man I am).
Both cricketers have retired from the sport and are now good friends.
