We’ve been talking to you about Matter for a while. And rightly so: The new home automation standard promises to revolutionize our connected devices and indeed the homes they control. And the project is progressing rapidly as it is required on the first devices today. While Apple is getting an early start with the iOS 16.1 update, Google is rushing to catch up. A successful bet, because eight of these home automation devices are now protocol compliant.
Not surprisingly, Google prioritized its most popular devices alongside the newest on the market. Starting today, all Matter-enabled accessories can be controlled from one of the following Google Nest devices:
- google home
- Google Home Mini
- Slot Mini
- NestAudio
- Nest Hub (1st and 2nd generation)
- Nest Hub Max
- Nest Wi-Fi Pro
8 Google Nest devices are now compatible with Matter
As such, it is a strong entry by Google into the Matter ecosystem. Especially since the company does not intend to stop here, as it plans to add new devices to the list from 2023, in particular Nest thermostats and even Nest WiFi terminals. All these connected objects can be controlled from the Google Home app on Android and soon iOS.
As a reminder, Matter aims to simplify the installation and configuration of connected devices. For this, the protocol will allow more devices to comply with a single standard, even if they are produced by different manufacturers. In fact, it will be much easier to build a smart interior. The year 2023 should see Matter take root globally in the home automation world.
