If you can no longer summon Google Home with the “Ok Google” command or get your Chromecast to function normally, look no further, it’s not from your home. A server-side glitch is affecting the firm’s devices this morning. At the moment we do not know exactly what caused this malfunction, but it has already taken several hours. Many users on Twitter now complain that they can’t ask the weather on their speakers or even turn on their lamps. Of course there are alternatives in the latter case: for example you can use the official app that comes with your connected lamps by the way.
Google Home and Chromecast affected by global outage
While acknowledging the issue on Twitter, Google stressed that it only affects the issue. “Some” users and offers a solution. In the first tweet, the web giant explains: “We’re sorry that some of our users have reported issues with their Google Home and Chromecast. We are on it. Stay tuned for new information”. Before adding a few hours later: “We have a fix for Google Home and Chromecast. It will be applied automatically in 6 hours. Restart your device to get everything working immediately”.
Solution that is not yet working on our speaker at the time of writing these lines. On Reddit and Twitter, some users suspect that the issue is caused by a failed update to fix a security flaw that affects Google Home and Chromecast, exposing users’ addresses.
