Winamp will make a comeback in 2019! Alexandre Saboundjian, CEO of Radionomy, which bought the audio player in 2014, confirmed this to TechCrunch. “Next year will be a completely new version with the legacy of Winamp but with a more complete listening experience”said.
Winamp: A new version of the music player is coming in 2019
It doesn’t go into all the details of the features that will be offered, but it does give us some insights. “You will be able to listen to MP3s that can be found on a device, also in the cloud, on podcasts, streaming radio stations or a playlist you create”explains Saboundjian.
“Users want a unique experience. I think Winamp is the perfect player for everyone. And we want people to be on every device“. Hence big ambitions for the great comeback of the music player. It remains to be seen what exactly this new version will propose and whether it can truly impose itself on all of our smartphones now that we are used to Spotify, YouTube Music and other music streaming services.
Winamp will be available on Android and iOS. True core software of the early 2000s gradually disappeared from our computers in favor of other solutions, but many users stuck with it. Winamp made its first comeback in version 2.9 in early 2018, thanks to a nostalgic developer. But now a brand new official release awaits us in 2019.
