The WhatsApp app is making a lot of noise right now, but not necessarily for the right reasons. Indeed, it is the privacy policy in particular that worries users. But Facebook has not stopped developing features so far. The next image might be about security. Indeed, WABetaInfo noticed a feature in the app: automatic destruction of images. When you share a photo, you don’t want it to remain in discussion forever, knowing that WhatsApp has an annoying trend to store media on their respective phones.
With this new feature, an icon appears at the bottom left of the image before you share it. Thus, by activating a countdown, it is possible for it to automatically self-destruct after it is displayed. This new feature also makes it possible to delete the image if a user leaves the current chat. More importantly, impossible to export on your smartphone. A Snapchat or Instragam Live action that will allow you to maintain certain security regarding shared content. The image can only be seen by clicking on it. The preview will not show anything that would add additional security. WABetaInfo says the last point to remember is that the app will block screenshots.
WhatsApp needs to regain users’ trust
There is currently no release date for this feature, but it may come in the coming weeks via an update. Note that WhatsApp already offers a self-destruct system, but only for text messages. Therefore, this addition will make it possible to expand it to all media.
Note that WhatsApp is currently experiencing some excitement following the release of new, much more restrictive terms of use. As a result, users are looking for alternatives like Telegram or Signal. The feature focuses on protecting privacy, but parent company Facebook isn’t sure it’s enough to entice users who have been scalded by its policy.
