Facebook will update its flagship app very soon, What’s up?. This update, which concerns Web, macOS and Windows versions as well as Android and iOS applications, will benefit from many new features. In the menu: dark mode, animated stickers or the possibility of highlighting a person during a group video call.
Dark mode makes an appearance in the web version
Good news for nearly 2 billion WhatsApp users: coming soon dark mode on desktop version. Recall that the dark mode is already available on Android and iOS, it was not yet present in the web browser and desktop versions of the messaging service. If adding this mod gives real visual comfort to the user, it could also be beneficial for displays (especially OLED) as it is a bit less greedy and reduces battery drain.
Another small innovation: like Snapchat, Scan the QR code of your interlocutor, to add them to your contacts immediately. WhatsApp is also taking advantage of this update to improve its video chat system. Now you can highlight a contact with a simple touch of the screen. Also, there is a video call icon in group chats to make WhatsApp even easier and faster to use. A simple press on it and you are on a video call with eight of your interlocutors.
The update in question brings a host of new animated stickers that are “always thinner and more expressive” (according to WhatsApp on its blog). Finally, users KaiOS (an operating system for non-touch smartphones based on Firefox OS) will be able to update their status and even a photo within a 24-hour period.
You may not have immediate access to all of these updates. Their distribution is gradual and may require several days or even weeks to be truly effective.
